By Tony Garrow, D.C.
Summer is here and it's time for shorts, bathing suits, and sandals. This can be a scary event for parents who are worried about Lyme Disease. Coping With Lyme Disease by Denise Lang is a book that thoroughly covers all aspects of Lyme Disease including prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and more. Many of the preventive suggestions in this book are very interesting like "wear light-colored clothing so ticks will be more visible upon inspection." Also, "take any clothing worn and throw it into the dryer for fifteen minutes on high heat. This will kill any ticks on the clothes (p.220)." This book was recommended to me by Fred Lawson, the executive director of the Florida Lyme Disease Association, Inc. He can be reached by the number in the back of the book. His daughter is a Chiropractor. And interestingly, on page 213, there is a section on Chiropractic. It says that Chiropractic is "designed to realign the body's various energy systems." It also says that Chiropractic "not only provided relief of symptoms, but also assisted in boosting the body's immune system." I have patients with Lyme disease that have benefited greatly from Chiropractic Care. Chiropractic is not a cure for Lyme disease, but it may help relieve some of the symptoms and boost the immune system to fight the disease. There are many great nutritional and alternative therapies that can help patients who suffer from Lyme Disease. In this book, there are references available to get more information on these therapies. |
